Accessibility statement
What was done, what has been tested, and what is known to be outstanding.
Academy Orthopaedics intends this site to be usable by everyone, including people using screen readers, keyboard navigation, magnification or voice control. The target is the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 at level AA.
That is a target rather than a certified claim. No independent audit has been carried out, and a statement asserting full conformance without one would not be worth much. What follows is an account of what was actually built and what is known to be missing.
Measures taken
- Semantic HTML throughout, with one h1 per page and headings in order, so screen readers and assistive technology can navigate the structure
- A skip link to the main content as the first focusable element on every page
- A visible focus ring on every interactive element, using focus-visible so it appears for keyboard users without following mouse clicks
- Keyboard operation of the whole site, including the navigation menus, which close on Escape and return focus to the control that opened them
- Text and background colours chosen to meet contrast requirements, including on the dark sections
- Descriptive alt text on images, and decorative graphics marked so assistive technology skips them
- Respect for the reduced motion preference, which disables animations and scroll effects
- Text that reflows at 400 percent zoom without horizontal scrolling, with tables and diagrams the only elements allowed to scroll sideways
- Form fields with associated labels, and error states communicated in text rather than by colour alone
- No content that flashes or auto-plays
Known limitations
- No formal third-party audit has been carried out. The measures above are the result of deliberate design and internal testing, not an independent assessment.
- Site search uses a third-party component whose accessibility has not been independently verified. The conditions and treatments pages list all site content as an alternative route.
- Third-party content added later, such as a scheduling widget, may not meet the same standard. Any such addition will be reviewed against this statement.
Accessibility of the offices
This statement covers the website. For questions about physical access to a particular office, including parking, entrances and accessible facilities, contact the office directly. Those details will be published on each location page once they are confirmed.
Reporting a problem
If something on this site is difficult or impossible to use, that is a fault worth knowing about. Reports are read and acted on.
Describe the page, what you were trying to do, and what assistive technology or browser you were using if you know it. That makes it far easier to reproduce and fix.
If you cannot access something you need, tell us what it is and it will be provided another way.
